FSC “PLAY UP” TRYOUT POLICY
FSC “Play up” tryout policy strongly encourages players to play in their age group. Players who play with and compete against players of the same age benefit from team placement, playing time, gaining confidence and leadership skills critical to their development. Returning players may request travel tryout “Play up” consideration, which normally are only approved in exceptional circumstances.
School grade is considered as part of the club’s evaluation, but the decision to allow a player to tryout to “Play up” is ultimately based on technical criteria:
Technical ability and understanding relative to the top few players in the older age group.
Physical readiness to handle the demands of higher competition.
Emotional maturity and team fit.
Roster composition and developmental considerations
Team Formation policy
Send a request for tryout “Play up” consideration to [email protected] must include the parent’s name, players name, birthdate, next year’s school grade, current FSC team (e.g., girls 13A) and any supporting rationale based upon the “play up” criteria no later than May 22nd.
If the request is approved, the club will notify them to attend only the “Play up” tryouts. They will not be considered for placement with their (younger) age group in order to ensure timely and fair club wide tryout team formation. Being eligible to try out does not guarantee placement in the older group, even if they were previously on that team. Approved “Play up” request are for one year.
Any player placed in an older age group will be monitored throughout the season to ensure the environment remains appropriate for their growth and well-being.
